Although, it is very confusing when you find yourself at the department store faced with hundreds of brands offering everything from ‘light reflecting’ to ‘anti-ageing’ to ‘oil-controlling’ and the list goes on. So, to simplify things firstly, a good base should look and feel light.
Foundation should not be used to re-create your skin, but rather to enhance it.It is one of the few cosmetics you have to get right or your complete look will appear mask-like. For this reason, it is a good idea to have your foundation matched to your complexion by testing the top choices on your jawbone and check the color in natural light. The one that disappears into your skin is the ideal one for you. I mostly work with liquid foundations. Their coverage is sheer but buildable, which allows for the most versatility.

Also give some tips for people who have dark circles – what kind of eye shadow can they pick. One can choose eye shadow color according to their skin tone/ their eye color or even to match with their hair color. The most recommended shades are browns, taupes, bronzes, mauves and plums. Indian women have naturally beautiful eyes.
Add depth to these with prune, copper, burgundy, and darker shades of brown eye shadow. For a bold look, use wine, dark blue or purple colors. Dark grey shadow may be used as a very natural-looking eyeliner for a subtle smoky effect. Darker Indian skin should avoid too much glitter, as this tends to look overdone more on them than on fair skin. Metallic hues can up the glamour quotient when you want to do party makeup, but choose ones with more of sheen and less of glitter particles.
Try to avoid colours like white, which don’t complement most Indian complexions. Instead, dull golds look very attractive when paired with Indian ethnic wear. Few of my favorite combinations would be: Monochromatic looks– One color in varying shades like Dark, medium & light brown/plum or green. Polychromatic looks– Pairing shades together based on light, medium & dark. It doesn’t matter if the shades are different in color as long as you follow the light, medium and dark rule. For the daytime we want to keep the makeup look soft and subtle. We even have to consider the time that we spend on creating a fresh neat look.
My idea of a 5 minute routine is: (a) pat a tinted moisturizer or dust a mineral powder compact foundation all over the face not forgetting to cover the neck area. (b) use concealer if required (cream base if using a tinted moisturizer) and if you are planning to use a mineral powder foundation the concealer should be applied prior to the foundation. (c) if using a tinted moisturizer use powder to set your makeup. (d) apply blush. (e) line your lash line. (f) a quick sweep of an earthy tone like a light chocolate brown all over the eye lid keeping the color under the crease line. (g) slick on lip color.
KEEPING IT STYLISH EVERYDAY – What about makeup for evening outings? For evenings we can use warm tone eye shadow shades with brighter and much bolder lip colors. Well defined eye brows are a must for both day and evening look.
Eyeliner can be a little more intense and even winged out for an classic/edgy look. To add an extra oomph (my personal favorite) product would be a highlighter (Bobbi Brown shimmer brick) apply on top of the cheek bones and on the bridge of the nose and you are ready to roll;-) I believe that makeup can transform not only the external beauty of a woman but it acts as a confidence booster. There is no set rules for makeup and just like any other technique, makeup requires practice.
It is not a serious game. Discover your own ways, believe and celebrate your own beauty. Have fun as this whole transformation process is amazing!
